Have You Been Given Your Chance?

Published by jennipps at 9:55 pm under Creativity, Quotes Edit This

“There is nothing harder than being given your chance.”

~Deborah Chiel

Have you been given your chance? What did you do with it?

From experience, being given a chance and taking advantage of it can open up a flood of creativity.

When someone expects you to deliver, likes your work, and — gasp – PAYS you for what you have done, you want to hold on to that. You want to keep the feeling of the work you have done is worthwhile.

At the same time, though, there is a unique kind of stress that goes along with it. You worry more about if it’s good enough. (It is or you wouldn’t have your chance.) You obsess over every word choice, every dance step, every brush stroke. You cringe at the thought of your work going out into the world like that, but you’re under deadline so it has to go out.

It’s hard. I’m not going to pretend it isn’t. Right now, I have weekly deadlines. It’s hard, but it’s exhilerating too.
